Payment methods in the German casino market

Which route is available is decided by the operator — which limits apply is decided by the law. This section keeps the two cleanly apart and describes five routes that German licence holders actually offer.

The limit hangs on the player, not on the account

Germany caps deposits at 1,000 euro per calendar month across every licensed operator combined. The cap is enforced through LUGAS — the shared limit register run for all German states — and applies to the person, not to the individual account.

A second payment route, a second card or a second account change nothing about that. On application the cap can be raised to 10,000 euro a month where economic capacity is evidenced and nothing points to problem play; raised limits are only available from the age of 21, and below that the cap stays at 1,000 euro. The deposit limit page sets out the procedure.

Why a route that works for depositing may not work for withdrawing

Most of the friction English-speaking players report in Germany happens on the way out, not on the way in. Several routes are one-directional by design: a prepaid voucher can put money in but cannot take it out, and a bank-transfer initiation service pushes money from your current account to the operator rather than back. Where that is the case the operator picks a return route of its own, usually a SEPA transfer, and checks that the receiving account belongs to you before releasing it. That check is a licensing obligation, not a delay invented by the payment provider.

What each route page examines

  • Whether the route is open for deposits, for withdrawals, or for both
  • Who bears the fee and at which point it arises
  • How long the credit takes in each direction
  • What applies in a chargeback, a dispute or a reversal
  • Which documents verification asks for on this particular route

What the choice of payment route cannot do

No payment route bypasses the limit, the exclusion register or identity verification. Anyone entered in OASIS, Germany's nationwide self-exclusion register, will not reach a game at any licensed operator regardless of how they intend to pay. Sites that promise otherwise operate outside the German licence, and outside it the civil-law protections a player would otherwise rely on do not apply either.

Why these five and not more

The section covers what appears regularly at German licence holders and behaves differently in the two directions. Credit cards and cryptocurrencies are absent on purpose: the first has largely disappeared from licensed German casinos, the second does not appear at them at all.

Frequently asked

Can I get around the limit by depositing at several operators?
No. The 1,000 euro cap is cross-operator and is added up through LUGAS. Once the month's total is reached, every licensed operator refuses further deposits until the next calendar month.
Why is the withdrawal slower than the deposit was?
Because many routes only work in one direction, so the operator has to verify that the return account belongs to you. That verification is part of the licence conditions.
Is any payment route available without identity verification?
Not at a licensed German operator. Verification attaches to the player account, not to the payment instrument.
