Game providers and their portfolios

The games do not come from the casino but from studios that are approved individually. Who supplies which series explains a good part of the difference between two offers. Four studios are profiled here.

Every game is approved on its own

In Germany it is not the studio that is licensed but the individual game. That is why a studio's German catalogue sometimes differs markedly from what runs under the same name in other markets.

If you have played a title elsewhere, expect it to look different here or to be missing entirely. Bonus-buy features, high stakes and fast spin cycles do not survive the German conditions, so a catalogue list taken from another country is a poor guide to what you will find.

Two kinds of studio, and why the difference is worth knowing

Merkur and Novoline grew out of the German arcade business — the Spielhalle, the cash gaming hall found on almost every high street — and their series are familiar to players from those machines. NetEnt and Pragmatic Play come from the international online business and had to cut their catalogues to fit the German rules. Recognising which of the two a game belongs to explains most of what you will see in a German lobby, which is why four studios are enough for this section and forty would not add much.

What a studio page covers

Studios are not graded here, and payout percentages of individual titles are not printed: they are configured per game and are not publicly verifiable.

  • Origin and ownership, as far as it is publicly documented
  • The character of the portfolio: the series and mechanics that define the house
  • What the German framework changed about that portfolio
  • The studio's position in table games and the live sector

A familiar studio says nothing about the operator

Licensing, identity verification, deposit limits and withdrawal times are the responsibility of the licensed operator, not of the developer whose logo appears on the reels. The same series runs at operators whose processing times differ by days. If that is the question you came with, the reviews answer it; this section does not.

Frequently asked

If a studio is approved, can I play all of its games in Germany?
No. Approval is granted game by game, and each operator decides which approved titles to buy. Two licensed casinos can carry very different catalogues from the same studio.
Why does the German version of a game differ from the one I know?
Because the one-euro stake cap, the five-second minimum spin duration and the bans on autoplay and bonus-buy features rule out many titles in their original form.
Does a well-known studio indicate a trustworthy casino?
No. Payout speed, verification and support sit with the operator. The studio only supplies the game.
